Richard Bailey moved west, to the mountains
1735 - August 22 - born either in Wigan, Lancashire or somewhere in Virginia
                 - The Bailey Family says he was probably born ~1740, and that although tradition says he was born in England, research there has failed to document it.
1736 - parents were in Henrico (later Chesterfield) County, Virginia
1760 - bought 100 acres from John Skelton (next to brother James) for £20 (Chesterfield Co)
~1762 - married Elizabeth Ann (Annie) Belcher - Dale Parish, Chesterfield, Virginia
                 - The Bailey Family says the marriage was ~1760.
1764 - sold the 100 acres to Morgan Lester for £40.
           moved to Bedford (later Franklin) County.
1771 - 203 acre patent - both sides of Maple Branch of the Blackwater River.
1774 - Mitchell Clay (probably his wife's brother-in-law) 803 acres "Clover Bottom" - Bluestone R.
1778 - 268 acre survey (grant received 1786 - signed by Gov. Patrick Henry)
               - north side of the Blackwater River (joining the two other parcels)
1780 - 445 acre patent - both sides of Blackwater River (surveyed 1762)
1781 - moved to New Hope, Montgomery/Tazewell County near where Mitchell Clay lived
                - The Bailey Family says the move was probably between 1782-3
1782 - tax list Bedford County. 1 horse, 5 cattle, no males over 16 (besides him);
                son John next to him, no property
1782-1788 - traveled several times from Tazewell to Bedford/Franklin Co for land sales etc.
[1785 - Franklin County formed from Bedford Co.]
1787 - tax list Montgomery County. 3 white males 16-21. son John nearby with 4 horses, 6 cattle
[1789 - Wythe County formed from Montgomery & Grayson Counties]
1793 - 1800 - tax lists Wythe County
1796 - 1799 - signed 4 petitions to form Tazewell County
[1799 - Tazewell County formed from Wythe & Russell Counties]
1801 - personal property tax list Tazewell
1806 - personal property and land tax list Tazewell County
1801 - 1820 - tax lists Tazewell County - except for 1814.
               Since he supposedly died in 1818, the later ones may be his son?
1818 - died - buried Leatherwood Farm, Tazewell County, Virginia (now Mercer County, W Va)
1820 - census Tazewell - not on it.

                     Henry - m. Jane Unknown

James Bailey remained in Chesterfield County
1738 - born Henrico (later Chesterfield) County, Virginia
1759 - bought 77 acres from Peter Daniel "adjoining John Skelton's land on the south side of Skinquarter Road"
          - (part of a 390 acre patent originally granted to Richard Belshar in 1750)
1783 census - Benjamin on it, resident of Chesterfield County - 7 whites in household
1789 - January 21 - married Elizabeth Lockett - Chesterfield Co.
17xx - married Elizabeth Unknown
~1816 - died
