the handwriting is extremely neat and clear, no possibility of misreading the date. I originally assumed it must be a
mistake in hearing on the part of the census-taker, but I see now that William and Charlotte were in fact in Boston

Letter from Alexander Van Iderstine, Shoemaker of Murray Harbour PEI to his brother John B. Van Iderstine of Tabusintac, New Brunswick, Undated 1853 or 1854.
Dear Brother John
As I have directed this letter to you will please send it to William or give it to him when he comes to see you and I expect he does pretty often. You may think it strange that I have written it separate from the letter but as there was not space I thought it better to write it by itself and also as I did not mention anything about the Death of my Dear wife in the note to William I hope you will answer this letter as soon as you can.
Farewell my Brother
I am yours affectionally
Alexander Van Iderstine
