This information comes from History of Whiteside County, Illinois, from its first settlement to the present time; with numerous biographical and family sketches by Charles Brent (for 10 years editor and proprietor of “The Whiteside Sentinel”; (Morrison, Illinois; 1877) All of these people, except for John, are my relatives.
1837 - early settlers of Portland Twp: John Bothwell (p. 345)
13 February 1842 - organization of the Congregational Church and Society of Albany. Members had withdrawn from the First Presbyterian Church “being dissatisfied with the principles of said church.” Certificate signed by: James Bothwell, William H. Efner, Duty Buck, Erastus Allen, William Bothwell, Mrs. Hannah Allen, Mrs. Ruth Bothwell, Mrs. Fannie Buckingham, G. Buckingham by profession, Mrs. Dinah Bothwell by profession.

20 July 1844 - James Bothwell (and others) elected trustee for 5 years
12 July 1846 - James Bothwell and C. Abbott elected deacon for 3 years
31 Jan 1847 - James Bothwell died (pp. 118-119)
3 June 1860 - a tornado struck Albany, causing much destruction; 5 people killed (out of 800)
a Mr. Bothwell suffered a loss of $2000. (p. 94)
These are the only Bothwells mentioned in that book.
