And because I am not sure I have found the right Brown of whatever first name, there are some alternatives, from various searches I have done.

Duncan McQuarrie alias Brown - emigrated 1739
. . . eventually got land in Argyle, Washington County (which became part of the town of Greenwich)
. . . apparently he never lived there - he identified himself in his will as "Duncan Brown, of the Precinct of the Walkill in Ulster County."
The names of our Browns, who inherited land in the Argyle Patent were: Gilbert, Archibald, Daniel, John and Duncan (daughter Christian also inherited land, but her last name was McLaughlin).   According to Una Bowman, Gilbert (s/o Duncan) and Daniel and Duncan (grandsons) and John McLughten (possible grandson) were on the quit rent list of 1789.
In 1790, the Browns on the census for Argyle, Washington County, NY were George, Isaac, Daniel, Ebenezer, John, Archibald and Casperus(?) - the handwriting is difficult to read and all of these might not be Browns.  John and Daniel could have been the sons of Daniel/Duncan, grandsons of Duncan, but Archibald is most likely the Archibald McCore/Brown who was the son-in-law of Alexander McNaughton.   The other Browns here could have been other grandsons of Duncan, born after his will was written, or they could be relatives of Archibald and John McCore/Brown. The surviving children of our Duncan are all still in Walkill for the 1790 census.
