Ok, this is not quite ready for prime time.
My original idea was to give a brief outline of the state's history,
then a brief summary of our people who passed through.
That's a bit more ambitious than I think I can do at this point.
However, I just discovered a site - mykentuckygenealogy.com - which has a lot of neat info, neatly arranged.
It has a link to a brief history of the state - and it also has histories of the individual counties (when you click on their links). I wish I had discovered this site sooner!
What I do have is a list of the counties, with the dates of formation, and with links to online free census transcriptions when I know of them.
Our people who were in Kentucky:
Dad's side:
Roberts (Livingston County - arrived md-1790 from South Carolina - moved on to Illinois, Nebraska, California)
census info, marriages, land grants etc.
Eison (Livingston, Caldwell counties - arrived mid-1790s from South Carolina? Pennsylvania? - nothing further known)
census info, marriages, land grants, etc
Caldwell County Eisons
Helms - I don't think our Helmses ever were in Kentucky, but I did gather some Helms info when I was doing other families

Mom's side:
Stanton - our people went pretty directly from Ireland to Indiana, but they did have ties to Kentucky, so I did a lot of look-ups there.
Stantons in Kentucky
- this is just info from the census indexes (mostly)- it does let you see where they gathered though.
Stantons in selected counties
- actual census readings, marriages, etc for Garrard, Jefferson, Jessamine, Russell and Shelby counties.
Louisville Stantons
- there is a group of people here I think we must be related to, but haven't been able to find the connection.
Deweese (Logan, Butler, Hickman, Ballard counties - arrived mid-1790s from North Carolina (and before that, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Amsterdam) - moved on to Illinois, Indiana . . .)
Deweeses in Kentucky - census readings etc.
Deweeses in selected counties - Logan, Butler, Hickman, Ballard
Hudson - We only have one Hudson we know about for certain - Amelia, who married Henry Deweese in Butler County. I think maybe her people were in Ohio county, and possibly in North Carolina before that, but I am not sure. Amelia and Henry moved on to Illinois, and our next ancestor, Absalom, moved on to Warrick County, Indiana - where many of his probable maternal relatives already had settled.
I do have some info on Hudsons-in-general in Kentucky.
Sams - Our people started out in Virginia, met up with the Deweeses in North Carolina, moved on to Kentucky (in the early 1800s). Some of them moved on to Illinois and some of them moved back to Kentucky.

Lusk - our people (probably) came from Northern Ireland to Pennsylvania, then moved down into Virginia. Our branch kept moving west, and arrived in Kentucky (Lawrence County) in 1828. They lived in Greenup, Carter, and Boyd counties starting in 1829 - some moves may have been made, but the county names changed over time also. Our particular twiglet moved north, to Warrick County, Indiana, and then on to Illinois (and back to Indiana).
Lusks in Kentucky (census info, some marriages, etc.)
Hull - I have not been able to connect our Hulls to any other branch, despite the good offices of Phyllis Hughes, official Hull genealogist. They may have come to Kentucky (Mason/Greenup area) from Virginia, but there is no positive proof. They moved on to Warrick County, Indiana.

Hughes - we have only 1 Hughes for certain, Elizabeth, who married Henry Deweese in Pennsylvania. They moved on to Virginia, North Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee, and then back to North Carolina. They may or may not have moved as a family group with her parents and brothers, so I did some look-ups in Kentucky.

Conner - I am not sure who our Nancy Conner (married Jonathan Lusk) connects with, but the best bet is the Conners who came from Ireland to Virginia, Kentucky and then Indiana.
Conners in Kentucky - only a few records for familiar names and places
