I was really only interested in Francis Shrode, who married Rebecca Hudson in 1816
in Butler Co, Ky, but I did find a little general information as I went along, so here it
is, in case it might help anyone.

Francis Shrode (or Shrodes, or Shroad, etc) was born in about 1787 in Pennsylvania. The Butler County History book [Butler County, Kentucky : a history of Butler County, Kentucky and its people : Butler County, Kentucky history / [edited by Lois Russ] Morgantown, Ky. : Butler County Historical and Genealogical Society, 1987.] says the date was 25 November 1779 and the place was Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. That is quite a significant difference, and I am wondering if there is not some confusion. The Francis married to Rebecca Hudson is more likely born later - he says he is 62 on the 1850 census.
I found no Shrodes in the Rev. War Pension Abstracts book. UPDATE: an email from Liz Shrode Collins (22 Oct 2010) says " I have come across a number of references to John Shrode and his service and do know that there is at least one person descended from him that has used his service to become a member of the DAR." Liz says further that he can be found on various muster rolls in the Pennsylvania Archives series (6th series, volume 2). So for those of you interested in this family, there is a place to start. (I would also check for the DAR file on him - it would have at least some of his descendants listed.)
In 1790, in Allegheny County, PA, there were three Shrodes: Henry, Jacob and John. All of them were over 16 (born before 1774); Jacob was listed by himself; Henry had 2 boys under 16 and 2 females (presumably one wife and one daughter) in his household; John had 1 boy under 16 and 3 females.
I did not find any Shrodes in Allegheny Co, PA in 1800, and there is no census for Kentucky for that year (and I do not, at the moment, have access to the substitutes).
In 1810, in Butler County, KY, where Francis married Rebecca Hudson, there were again
three Shrodes: Henry, John and William.

Sometime between 1816 and 1820, Francis and Rebecca moved to Warrick County.
They are there for the 1820 census. (Francis is the only Shrode there that year.)
