As far as I can tell, John Lusk was the son of Robert Lusk -
and Robert Lusk is the subject of a very nice article in The Genealogist by Sarah Ann Osborn Lusk:
"Robert Lusk of Washington County, Tennessee: early powder maker among the Wataugans"
[v 16 #2 - Fall 2002 and v 17 #1 Spring 2003]
Some of her information does not agree exactly with other information available on the web, particularly when she speculates about Robert's possible ancestors, but from Robert on down, she seems quite reliable -
lots of documentation.
Keeping in mind that the tangled relationships among the early Lusks are just that - a tangle - here is my two-cents worth on Robert's (and therefore John's) antecedents.
Robert, b ~1743 in Augusta Co, Va (or maybe in Ireland?) - d ~1801 Tennessee m Mary Williams.
He was the orphan Robert in the Augusta County records.
His father John Lusk b ~1705 - d 1751 m Mira Hayes.
His father Nathan Lusk b ~1681 - d ~1748 m Elizabeth Nevitt.
Nathan was the uncle (some say brother) of William of Chester.
