Ohio Lusks

A group of Lusks (and several of their in-laws) from Tazewell County, Virginia migrated to Allen County (later Auglaize), Ohio in the mid-1830s. These were William and Charles Lusk, their sister Mary Polly Lusk, and their possible brother, possible cousin-of-some-sort, John C Lusk. At one time I thought William might have been the son of Samuel and Susanna Stevenson Lusk, - he was supposed to have been massacred along with his father in 1792, but I thought maybe he had somehow survived. But it turns out that it is more likely that they all (except possibly John) are children of William and Mary Neely Lusk.

William the father (husband of Mary Neely Lusk) was b. about 1760 to William Lusk and Jane Unknown.
William his father was b. about 1739 to James and Eleanor Smith Lusk.
           (d. 1783 - so he isn't mentioned in his father's will; James does mention his grandson William)
James was b. about 1710 (d. 1785 in Abbeville, SC) to Nathan and Elizabeth Nevitt Lusk.
Nathan was b. about 1681 (d. 1748 in Augusta Co, Va)
Nathan is generally (I think) considered a brother to William Lusk of Chester, PA.
[But Sandy Jesse, my Lusk guru, thinks he was William's uncle]

1. William, the son of William and Mary Neely Lusk, was born about 1786. He married Charity Runyan (daughter of Isaac Runyan and Charity - Geertje - Hageman) on 25 December 1806 in Tazewell County, Virginia. (his sons)
2. Charles, his brother, born 1775-1794 married Ann Runyan on 20 June 1811 (Tazewell County, VA).
3. Mary Polly, his sister, married Benjamin Runyan (son of Isaac and Charity) on 6 January 1807 (Tazewell County, VA).
4. John C Lusk, b. about 1798, married Polly Corder 21 October 1819.
(The marriages all come from Tazewell County, Virginia Marriages, 1800-1853 by Pauline Haga. Signal Mountain, TN : Mountain Press, [1991?])

They all moved to Ohio in about 1835. John C Lusk and Charles and his son William (who was a minister) moved next to Missouri (about 1839). John C stayed there; Charles died there; William returned to Ohio in about 1845.

This is what I have about them.

Charles Lusk b. 1780-1790
Tax lists Tazewell County, Virginia - 1810-20
1811 June 20 - Charles Lusk marries Anne Runyan (John Peery)

Children: the only child listed by most Internet sources is William-the-minister.  But Cheryl Lusk found Charles's will in Missouri, and it lists several by name, and a few more (unfortunatley) in general. From Cheryl:
"John C Lusk is one of the witnesses on the will of Charles but is not listed as a son. Charles's sons William, Isaac and Charles are the executors. He mentions in the will other children, Joseph and Edward and Polly Coleman. He also mentions younger children to be taken care of but no names." [Lusk Genforum Message #1788 - 11 March 2008]

He was older than her father Henry.
1847 - son CH Lusk born
1848 January - Charles died.
In 1850, young CH Lusk was living with his grandfather (Henry Miller) in Missouri; in 1860, both CH (now called Silas CH Lusk) AND his mother Jane were living with him.
I haven't found him in any census after 1830.  The information about the deaths of him and his first wife comes from Mike Miller, descendant of JC Lusk.
And although the censuses list all those children, the only one mentioned online is William. There is one unattached male Lusk in Auglaize Co in 1850 - Joseph G or D b ~1829 - son of Charles???

Polly Lusk
1807 - Polly Lusk- Benjamin Runyan 6 Jan 1807 (marriage performed by Henry Harmon)
There is a Benjamin Runyan in Tazewell in 1820, but he is in the 20-30 age group - as is his wife - and they have no children.
Benjamin was supposedly born about 1783.
I have found no Benjamin Runyans (and I tried several variants) in Virginia in 1830.
There are 2 Benjamins in Ohio in 1840 - in Carroll, Rose, 249 and in Champaign, Mad River 344. I have not yet looked them up.

Mary could be Polly Lusk, but is more likely Benjamin's sister Mary, who was, according to Internet sources, born 5 May 1769)

John C Lusk b. about 1798
John C did not stay in Ohio for even one census. He is in Tazewell County, Virginia for the 1820 and 1830 censuses, and in Benton County, Missouri for the next two censuses.
Three of his children, born 1834-1838, are listed as having been born in Ohio.
John married Polly Corder on 21 October 1819 in Tazewell County, Virginia (marriage performed by James Charles).
