According to Hook, the Jonathan Owen (1696) who married Bethia Terry was the probable son of John (1666) who was the probable son of George (1639).
Jonathan married Bethia Terry, probable d/o Gershom Terry, at Southold, LI - 23 Oct 1723.
They moved to Orange County, NY - Hook says he was probably the
Jonathan Owen listed as a militiaman in 1738 in the Wallkill, Orange Co, NY, 1st Company of the Precinct of Highlands commanded by Capt. Thomas Ellison [Report of the State Historian of NY, Colonial Series, 1:614]

Notes from Hook:
1779 May 17 -
deed from Gershom and wife Hannah, both of Goshen, Orange, NY, farmers - to William Stubbs and Ichabod Johnson - (some part of a lot of land in the angle of Minisink patent known by #33) - one witness to deed was Jonathan Owen, who appeared 25 June 1792.
Nathaniel ~1727 probably Brookhaven - died betw 1796 (date of will) -1802 (date of probate) Walkill, Orange NY
According to Hook, he is the 2nd cousin of our Jonathan.
Some people have made him the father of our Jonathan (and indeed Hook would have done so, if not for family records claiming Ebenezer as our Jonathan's father); I myself mistakenly made him our Jonathan's brother (having assumed he was the Nathaniel born ~1742). I now (July 2007) have joined the ranks of those who think he was our Jonathan's father. He has his own page.
Notes from Hook:
"He probably married twice if not three times. His first marriage could have taken place before 1750; he m (2?) 24 June 1757 Elizabeth Jane (NY Marriages, p. 288) and (3?) 18 Jan 1778 Nancy Darby (Goshen Presbyt. Church records)."
Randall Owen gives his dates as: b: 7 Feb 1727 d: 20 Apr 1802
and says his (2nd?) wife was Elizabeth Jayne (b: 7 Feb 1739 d: 8 Aug 1820) - which causes another problem, no?
Children with his first wife, name unknown:
Susanna ~1747 - m John van Lyle
Jonathan - ~1749 - 1814 - m Eleanor Kortright - our next ancestor.
Since Hook decided our Jonathan's father was Ebenezer, he looked for another possible candidate for the son of Nathaniel, and found this one ~1765 - 10 May 1809 , buried at Middletown, Wallkill, Orange Co, NY. But that probably was another mistake - it probably was the Jonathan s/o Gershom who died 10 May 1800 (see above)
Bethia ~1750 - m William Summerlin
Sarah ~1754 - 1822 - m William Bodle - 8 ch - moved to Tompkins Co, NY
Children with his second wife, Elizabeth Jayne
Joshua - 1760-1839 - m Zipporah Winters - moved to Tompkins Co, NY
David ~1762 - X - m "probably" (12 Mar 1782, Goshen, Orange, NY) Martha Armstrong
inherited the 200 acre farm in MInisink
Children with his third wife, Nancy Darby
William ~1779 - X
There is some confusion over this man. Nathaniel also had a possible grandson William, b. 1775 (son of Jonathan and Eleanor Kortright) - see the pages for Nathaniel's and Jonathan's children.
Juliana ~1782 - m (1?) William McBride
m (2?) 13 Mar 1802, Goshen, Orange, NY - Samuel Carpenter
Una says a Juliana Owen m James Carpenter on 13 Mar 1803 - and points out that this Juliana would have been Juliana McBride when she married
Temperance ~1784
Una has seen a lineage chart that has Temperance married to Samuel Carpenter
???Nathaniel jr - possible child according to Hook - deed witnessed by him in 1784, but not mentioned in Nathaniel's will - possibly died before then?)
Notes from Hook:
lived near brother Gershom, on the border line between Ulster and Orange counties, in the Walkill precinct of the Minisink patent, and quite far away to be worshiping at the Goshen Church. Land in the Minisink angle was granted to Nathaniel Owen and to Jonathan, George and Henry Smith and to Isaiah Veal and Wait Carpenter - 21 Mar 1770.

from Hook: A John Owens and his farm of 17 1/2 acres are mentioned in a deed of Thomas Gustin and James Sawyer both of the precinct of Goshen, Orange, NY, dated 31 Jan 1767 and recorded 11 Oct 1774; meadowland of Gershom Owens is also mentioned. {Orange Co, NY Deeds, C:456-7].
