Ebenezer Owen
Both Ebenezer and and his wife Temperance were born in Brookhaven, Temperance ~1710-12.  (Temperance's father had been born there as well, in the late 1680-early 1690s.)  Their first two children were born there, then they moved on, to Orange County - Walkill and Blooming Grove and Middletown.  [Things really start overlapping here.  The Abers started out on Long Island, in Brookhaven in fact.  They moved on to New Jersey, where Hopewell Aber married Charles Harkless - they moved on to western Pennsylvania, where their granddaughter Susan married Moses Brown, son of Moses Brown and Mary Owen the granddaughter of this Ebenezer.  And the Browns started out in Wallkill.]

He removed first to Westchester Co, NY, where he was listed as a freeman at Bedford, 21 Sep 1741 [Robert Bolton, History of Westchester County (1881), 1:37] He then removed to Walkill, Orange, NY near Mt. Joy. This family record is supported by a sketch of 17 Apr 1900 by JH Thompson in the Goshen Independent Republican, which reads in part as follows:

"The Owens [family] came from Wales and settled on Long Island about 1711. The first verifiable representative of the family was Ebenezer Owen who at the outset lived for a time in Westchester County, New York, and subsequently moved to Orange County, New York, and located in the town of Walkill near Mt. Joy on what is now the farm owned and occupied by Horace D. Thompson. He married Temperance, daughter of William Helme, and died in 1759 leaving four sons and five daughters, as follows: Ebenezer Jr; William; Nathaniel; Jonathan; Charity; Ketura; Julia; Ann and Temperance."

Hook, James William. "The Owen Family of Suffolk, Orange and Westchester Counties, New York." The American Genealogist, v 31 #1 (121) January 1955 pp. 40-41.

Forward to son, Jonathan (said by Hook to be our Jonathan)
