Seth Pattee

~1706 - ~1775
Massachusetts - New Hampshire
Peter -> Richard -> Seth

Seth Pattee spent his entire life in more or less the same place - but it changed from Massachusetts to New Hampshire. He was the son of Richard Pattee, the Virginian son of Peter Pattee the shoemaker, and (possibly) his wife Susanna Beale. (Richard may have had a previous unrecorded marriage.) He (Seth) was the second son, the first being his brother Peter, b. 1704; there were 8 more children after him.

On 24 December 1729, Seth Pattee of Haverhill, sadler, received a £5 legacy from the estate of his grandfather Peter. A few weeks later, his father deeded him 50 acres in Haverhill, MA, which he farmed for 2 years. (He sold it for £200 in December 1731.)

He married Dorcas Savory on 30 March 1730 in Bradford Massachusetts.

For a while, according to Marie Scalisi, he earned his living from the sea and possibly boarded with his in-laws.

In 1734, he bought 48 acres in Haverhill. In 1750 the part of Haverhill in which he lived became Salem, New Hampshire. Seth was one of the proprietors of the town (whatever that means) and served as selectman and constable.

In 1755, from September to December, he served as clerk of Capt. Jonathan Poor’s company, which marched in the first expedition against Crown Point. During the following year, he was clerk of Capt. Samuel Watts’s company. He was promoted to sergeant and served again with Watts in 1760.

In 1765, he sold some of his property to his son (our next ancestor) Jerediah, some having already gone to Eliphalet, and in 1770 he sold more to son Seth. His last land transaction occurred in 1774. His son Seth was the administrator of his estate, from which the first debt was paid in December 1775 (so presumably he died about then). Dorcas was granted dower rights in March 1784.
