died - 18 Jul 1862 in Philadelpha, Pennsylvania (according to one of the Rootsweb files)
Possibly George served during the Civil War and died in service. There were three George Slocums in Michigan Regiments - one in the 3rd Reg. Mich Infantry (Alfred Henry Slocum was in the same regiment), one in the 7th Michigan Cavalry, and one in the 3rd Michigan Cavalry (Edward Slocum also served in that unit). Son Lucius was in the 1st Reg. Michigan Light Artillery, son Egbert was in the 10th Reg. Mich Cavalry.

died - 12 May 1862 in New Madrid, Missouri (according to one of the Rootsweb files)
There was a Zina Slocum in the 1st Regiment, Michigan Light Artillery - Battery C served in the siege of New Madrid, Missouri in March of 1862. It is possible that Zina was wounded and left there when the Regiment moved on, and later died of his wounds. In the same Regiment were Lucius (Zina's nephew, son of George) and Walter (I'm not sure who he belonged to).
