Louisville Stantons

I was looking for Stantons in Kentucky. . .
because most of my Stantons are missing from the 1870 Warrick County census,
because many of the people they married came originally from Kentucky,
because Warrick County is just across the river,
because Thomas Stanton - as well as Mary Ann's husband - enlisted in a Kentucky
regiment during the Civil War.

I didn't find any Stantons in Louisville in the 1850 census, although apparently there were some there at that time. In 1860, I found some Irish Stantons, and in 1870 one of the Irish Stantons had a son named AUSTIN. Being a world-class conclusion jumper, I immediately assumed we must be related. (We shared other names as well, but Pat and Mike are not exactly uncommon Irish names; Austin is.) Four years later, I still have not found a connection, but here is what I have found out about them. Much of the information comes from their descendants.

Note: the city directory information comes from Nancy Stanton, and I am not sure I've connected the entries to the proper people, so beware!

Patrick Stanton and Bridget Ruddy
Born 1816 in Co Mayo (it's on his tombstone), died 1884 in Louisville, Kentucky.
Family stories say that he named his children after his siblings, 3 of whom went to the U.S. and 4 of whom went to England.
(They also say he was from Klare (spelled with a K) - but his tombstone says Mayo.)
While still in Ireland, he married Bridget Roddy or Ruddy (1822-1908).
They apparently came to the U.S. between 1852 (when their first child was born in Ireland) and 1854 (when their second child was born in Louisville.)
There is this - from In Search of Missing Friends
2 Jan 1869
of Patrick Stanton and Bridget Ready his wife, from co Mayo. about 27 years ago they went to Jamaica, lived there 1 year, then came to US
----Michael Ready, East Creek, Herkimer Co, NY

Their children were:
        Mary 1852 Ireland
        Michael Jacob 1854 Louisville, Ky
        Bridget 1856 Kentucky
Austin 1858 Kentucky (according to the census, Austin was born in 1862)
(if he died aged 17 that would be 1875 or 1889; according to census, he died before 1900)
John 1860 Kentucky (according to census, he died before 1900)

The family memories say the Michael J. was the only one to marry or have children. Austin drowned when he was 17.

Here is the census information I have for Patrick and children. Plus *NEW* City Directory listings - thanks to Nancy Stanton.

According to her great-granddaughter: "She is the one who came over on a boat with Cardinal Gibbons, then a child also, and with Cardinal Gibbons mother. They landed in New Orleans. and as I have always understood it, they were married at the Cathedral in New Orleans."
