Alice Belle Stanton

1872 - 1934
Indiana

Alice Belle was born 8 Dec 1872 in Warrick County, Indiana, the second child of Michael Edward Stanton and Mary Polly Deweese.

She was with her parents for the 1880 census:

Her mother died in 1897, but I think Alice was already on her own by then (she would have been about 25).

Here is a picture of her with her two younger sisters (it is the only picture we have of Alice):

In 1900, she was living and working in Evansville.

I don't know when Dora Miller died, but Ulysses married Alice in about 1906 (I get the date from the census listings - in 1910, she says she's been married 4 years; in 1930, she says her age at marriage was 34).

Despite her relatively late start, she and Ulysses had three children:

Lillian Helen Miller (m. Lee Blakeman) - born about 1908
James Edward Franklin Miller 1908-1991
(he was married three times; he and his first wife were the parents of Shari Sheridan who gave me some of this information)
William Robert Miller 1910 - ?
(he died fairly young, although he did marry Leola Broshmer and have 2 children).

About a year after her marriage, she brought her father to live with them.  Michael had been living for a while in the Marion Soldier's home, but he left there in 1903, and I don't know where he was for the next four years.  He moved in with Alice in 1907, and stayed there for the rest of his life (he died 1913).
