Charles (Vada?)

Boonville Standard, Friday, June 12, 1896
One Year in the Pen -
The case of Vada Stanton, charged with stealing a watch of Peter Robinson, from DeForest station, while Robinson was in this city, on May 20, was tried Tuesday in circuit court before the regular jury. Several witnesses appeared against Stanton, who made no defense whatever. Stanton asked to see Robinson's watch and pulled it out of his pocket, but instead of putting back the watch, Stanton deftly shoved three fingers into the pocket, keeping the watch, but making the man believe he had returned it. Afterwards Stanton sold the watch for 75 cents.
The jury sentenced Stanton one year in State's prison. He was taken to the Jeffersonville penitentiary by Sheriff Cherry on Wednesday.
